1-27-12 Letter

Goingt o ABQ with Hermana Allen and Hermana Rathfon

Dear family,
Well, it’s been two weeks here at the MTC and I’m still here, so that’s probably a good thing.  As I said before, I think I’ll stick to letters until I get out to the field where there aren’t lines for the computers.  I loved the package that you guys sent me.  The cookies were a big hit with my district.  I actually let one of my roommates (who left for Colorado on Monday) use the box you sent me so I guess you’ll just have to send another package sometime haha.
Let’s see…so yes, mom, my companion is going to ABQ as well.  I have gotten mail from you guys, grandpa, the Isaacsons, and most of the people from my fhe group @ BYU, so I’m doing pretty good!  I think I will try to write Grammy and Papa soon if I have time as well.  Make sure to tell Bro. Isaccson I really appreciated his letter too.  I think I’m good on addresses, I’ll just wait for people to write me for now.  We did actually get a few inches of snow, but a lot of it has melted.  I don’t think I’ll need temple bag either.  That’s so cool that Rich and Jen are trying to adopt again! Wish them the best of luck from me!
It’s going so well here! Sleeping hasn’t been a problem, even though I’ve had a bit of a cold the past couple of days.  It was sad to hear BYU lost that game, hopefully Miranda wasn’t too distraught. Dad, I think that’s pretty cool that Neal wants to learn Spanish! Tell him it’s super easy! Actually whenever we get discouraged about Spanish, we walk over a few classrooms to where they are learning Korean, and we feel better.
I included some pictures in this letter, hopefully they will satisfy mom!  You querio saber que yo amo ustedes y falto muy mucho. No puede aguardar sus proxima carta! I’m betting thats not totally correct, but I did it without looking anything up so there! Anyways, I better go.  Adios!

1st P-Day letter

When Thursday rolled around this week I was anxious to get the email from Jacob.  Sadly when I opened up the email this is what it said...

i hate samoeas but the peanut butter ones are great! I sent you guys a letter that has everything else!

Yep, it's cookie order time! We won't get them until March, but...Forgot to ask in my letter...do you prefer the smoas (ones with coconut)  or tagalongs (choc with peanut butter in side)...or both equal?  I remembered what you said about the thin mint, but not those ones.
Love you much!
Mom

That boy was in TROUBLE!  That's why you didn't post.  Not much to post on! Silly boy! Then Friday no letter in the mail.  Finally today we got a letter.  Lucky him it was long enough that I think I have forgiven him for the short email:)  .  So, here's this weeks letter...

Hey everybody!
Hey, so I have decided that emails are thoroughly overrated.  There are only like ten email computers for the whole MTC so the lines are ridiculous.  I’m thinking dearelder.com is the best till I leave the MTC.  Besides, then we’ll have these nice letters to keep.
So anyways my district is awesome!  Most of us are from Utah, but lets see… Elder Long and Elder Dean are both hilarious, and Elder Long was in the Walter’s ward.  Elder Seymore and Elder Yates are awesome too.  They are all going to San Diego.  Hermanas Allen and Rathfon are going to ABQ and their companion Hermana Coleman is going to Alabama.  The hermanas are a little more “mature” than us but we still have fun.
No, sadly I have not seen David Archuleta, but I did see Addison Walter when he came in this week!
Almost all of my time is spent on Spanish here, but I feel like we eat a lot here too.  I would say 6-7 hours a day on just Spanish! The devotional was awesome too.  Kevin R. Duncan spoke about being positive.  I am progressing really fast with Spanish. Lika bullet train! I get to go to the temple once a week on p-day so that’s nice.  I am actually sleeping really well surprisingly.
I was really glad to hear that BYU won on Saturday!  Go Cougars! I wear a lot of BYU shirts here so people know who I support.
Dad, that’s really exciting to hear about MT. Hood! I think you should do it!  I envy your hiking! Anyway I can’t wait to hear from you all again, but my laundry is done so I got to go! Miss ya!
Elder Jacob Hatch
PS Make sure to tell Grammy and Papa I love them and can’t wait to get to ABQ!
PPS Pictures will be coming next week!
PPPS Could you also send my blue hoodie and maybe another shirt?

First letter

Hey guys! This is elder Jacob Hatch! So far it has been really crazy here. great but crazy. For future reference my normal P day will be thursdays until I get out of here. Also, dont forget that I can get mail a lot faster through dearelder.com even though I can still only write back on thursdays. Anyways it's been great here at the Mtc! My companion's name is Elder Lamunyon and he reminds me a lot of Troy. So good news, I'm actually district leader for the bestest district ever! So basically that's just more I need to worry about everyday. I feel like I havent had a minute to myself since I got here. Spanish is going well I think. Im surprised at how quickly I am learning but I still feel overwhelmed. Yesterday we had to teach our first "investigator" in spanish! haha, ya that definitely went well... So you guys have to tell me everything thats going on back home. I really just need something to read. oh! and it would be great if you could send me gum. And vitamin water (spark). I also dont need my bedding here so maybe we can figure something out for that. Also if you want you could send me things to hang on my wall! anyways, having a good time so far, feeling the spirit and learning to teach! I cant wait for more letters!
Sincerely, Elder Hatch
P.S. The church is true. Adios!

So, did you all get that? He needs more letters to read:)

And he's off....

There he goes.....without a look back.  On to his next big adventure.
Elder Hatch and Nathan
This morning, we went to breakfast at the Black Bear Diner--Yum-o! Grandma and grandpa Hatch joined us.  It was a great breakfast.  After eating we headed down to Provo and spent some time on the Provo Temple grounds taking some pictures.

Jacob's Mission Farewell

Today Jacob had his mission farewell and what an AMAZING one it was!  Jacob gave a great talk and he had so many visitors that they had to open the overflow area.  Between all his BYU and high school friends and all the extended family and family friends, he had several rows filled up with supporters.  After church, we filled our house up with all those friends and family.  It was a bit crazy--I'm sure for awhile we had about 100 people here.  I'm so thankful for Costco (we needed large quantities!) and for the family and friends who brought food to share.  Jacob's Aunt Laura brought those awesome sugar cookies.  It was such a fun afternoon.  I know I'm a bit crazy, but I LOVE big get-togethers.  Our family and friends are amazing.  I know Jacob felt the love and support given by all these wonderful people.

The tie Jacob is wearing is "The Mission Farewell Tie".  He is the third of his friends to wear it.  Adam Walter was the first.  Four will wear it in all. What fun!

And now the countdown begins.....he enters the MTC this Wednesday!
